Weekly Band Update 2/4/18

4 Feb

Happy Super Bowl Sunday! Let’s go Eagles! I had to say it since I get to write these emails.

Congratulations to all of the students who participated in MPA Solo & Ensemble this past Friday and Saturday. You all made us so proud.

We need to send a huge shout out to Mr. Milkulski who jumped right into basketball concessions during the Friday home games vs. Barron Collier. Unfortunately a parent who signed up to work the event, never showed up and didn’t let anyone know. This left us in a real bind for such busy games. As board members we jump in and help out when others can’t be there. Thanks Don Dombrowski for running to the rescue to help out while other board members were at MPA.

If you sign up for an event and can no longer keep that obligation we really need for you to let us know. As an organization we rely on funds raised by concessions. It is our largest fundraiser. With out this money so many of the things your students get to do and experience could not be possible. We bring in the best sectional instructors to work with your students. We pay for buses to and from events. We create top notch props for performances. All of this goes towards making our students the best in the county and one of the best in the state.

What’s on tap for this week?

Thursday, February 8: We are in need of people to help with uniform fittings. The students haven’t had to wear their uniforms in several months. More playoff games will be posted as we confirm we will be hosting. All lacrosse games to date have been added, please sign up to help.

Saturday, February 17: Edison Festival of Light Parade, 29 Chaperon’s and 6 more equipment people are needed. Click here to sign up.

Wednesday, Thursday & Friday, March 7 – 9 – Concert MPA, GCHS is once again hosting this event. We offer full concessions out of the cafeteria. We are in need of people to work the grills & fryers as well as working the window. I have split each day into 2 shifts. Please check the schedule now and help out. If each person takes just 1 shift then it’s easy to distribute the work load. Click here to sign up.

Edison Festival of Light Parade:

This parade is Saturday, February 17. The kids are going to have a great time with this parade. Students will be in full uniform. Depending on temperatures auxiliary may wear all or part of their warm-ups, please be prepared for this. In preparation of this parade there are 2 rehearsals that have been scheduled. Thursday, February 8 and Thursday, February 15th 6 – 8:15PM. Students will need to bring their marching shoes to the 2/8 practice and need to wear their Elvis t-shirt to both rehearsals. Please plan accordingly.

Apparel Order:

We are planning another apparel order. In particular we will offer a t-shirt, tank top, long sleeved t-shirt and a backpack. Samples will be on hand and the Thursday’s marching band rehearsals. Final orders for this apparel will be taken on Thursday, February 15. Chaperon’s we are creating a special t-shirt that has a reflective logo along with the words Chaperon on the back. Be sure to stop into the band room 2/8 or 2/15 to purchase if this interests you.

San Antonio Trip:

Thank you to all who have addressed their delinquent account. If you still have questions about your account please email Mr. Carney directly j.a.carney@att.net. Chaperon’s please have all payments completed by February 1. Look for news to be published soon regarding meetings and information for the trip.

Keep sending in those shoes. We need to keep the momentum and those shoes coming in. Our goal is 300 bags. If each student collects 25 pairs of shoes we exceed that goal. We will collect shoes until February 28th. An event to collect shoes in Pebblebrook Lakes has been scheduled for Sunday, February 11th 10AM – 12PM. Mr. Dombrowski is looking for a couple of student volunteers to be on hand to help with the collection.

Please email me directly at gchsbandvolunteers@gmail.com if you can assist with counting and bagging or if you have any questions.
