Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade organizers surprised 300+ members of the Gulf Coast High Shark Marching Band with news that the band has been selected to march in the 2015 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. They are one of just 10 bands chosen from a field of 175 bands nationwide. Collier County Public Schools (CCPS) has never had anyone do something like this. Come November 2015, 50 million viewers will watch our students on TV. This truly speaks to the quality of the CCPS music programs as a whole but on this day, a special shout out and congratulations to the Gulf Coast High School band students and their director, Steve DeLadurantey. Superintendent, Dr. Kamela Patton, was with the students in the band room when the creative director of the Macy’s Parade made the big announcement. It was a magical moment, one certainly worthy of goose bumps.
The GCHS WInd Ensemble traveled to Miami on Friday May 3rd to perform for the Florida Bandmasters Association State Concert Band MPA. The Wind Ensemble did an incredible job and received Straight Superior Ratings!! They also received the Otto Kraashaur award which is only given to bands that earn straight superior ratings at Marching Band MPA, District Concert Band MPA, and State Concert Band MPA. This is the first time in the history of Gulf Coast High School that we have received this rating and award. (Next time you are in the band room, take a look at the Otto Kraashaur Award Plaque hanging on the wall) This is a really big deal and I can’t tell you how proud I am of our students for all of their hard work and dedication to the Shark Band!
